Turning Point USA Unveils Alternative, Star-Studded Halftime Show Amid NFL Super Bowl Controversy

Turning Point USA is stepping into the Super Bowl spotlight with an ambitious and highly visible counterprogramming move, unveiling what it calls a patriotic alternative to the NFL’s official halftime show — a decision that has added a new layer of cultural and political debate to one of America’s most-watched sporting events.

A Halftime Show With a Message

The conservative nonprofit Turning Point USA announced that it will air “The All-American Halftime Show” at approximately 8 p.m. ET on February 8, directly competing with the NFL’s official halftime broadcast. The event is being billed as a celebration of “faith, family, and freedom,” and organizers say it is designed to offer viewers a distinctly different experience from the league’s traditional stadium spectacle.

The concert will feature a lineup of country and rock artists led by Kid Rock, alongside Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett. The performers, known for their strong fan bases and ties to heartland and patriotic themes, are expected to deliver a high-energy set aimed at viewers who may feel disconnected from the NFL’s entertainment choices this year.

“David vs. Goliath”

Kid Rock framed the project as an uphill battle against a massive cultural institution.

“We’re approaching this like David and Goliath,” he said in a statement. “Going up against the pro football machine and a global pop superstar feels almost impossible — or is it?”

The “global pop superstar” he referenced is Bad Bunny, the Latin music icon selected by the NFL to headline the official Super Bowl halftime show. That choice has sparked criticism from some conservative commentators, who argue the league’s pick reflects broader cultural shifts they oppose.

Rock addressed the contrast directly, saying, “He’s talked about throwing a dance party, wearing a dress and singing in Spanish. That’s fine. We’re here to play great songs for people who love America.”

A Different Viewing Experience

Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet told Fox News Digital that the goal of the alternative broadcast is not just to make a political statement, but to give families another way to enjoy halftime.

Unlike the NFL’s massive stadium production, which can sometimes feel distant on screen, Kolvet said the All-American Halftime Show is designed to be more intimate and immersive, bringing viewers closer to the performers and creating what he described as a more personal, living-room-friendly concert experience.

“‘The All-American Halftime Show’ is an opportunity for Americans to enjoy a halftime show with no agenda other than celebrating faith, family, and freedom,” Kolvet said. “We’re excited about what these artists are going to deliver, and we know millions of people across the country will be watching.”

The Broader Super Bowl Backdrop

This year’s Super Bowl will feature a high-profile matchup between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks, adding even more attention to an event that already dominates the national conversation for weeks.

The halftime controversy has drawn comments from political figures as well, including Donald Trump. Speaking to Newsmax last fall, Trump questioned the NFL’s decision to select Bad Bunny, saying he didn’t recognize the artist and calling the choice “ridiculous.”

Bad Bunny, for his part, has previously spoken about avoiding U.S. tour dates due to concerns that Latino fans might face Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents near concert venues. His remarks, published in a September interview with i-D Magazine, added another layer to the political conversation surrounding his role in the Super Bowl.

Adding to the charged atmosphere, Green Day is scheduled to perform in a pregame segment. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has been an outspoken critic of Trump in the past, which has further fueled commentary from conservative groups and media outlets.

A Wide Digital Reach

Turning Point USA plans to distribute its alternative halftime show across a broad network of platforms. The broadcast will stream on the organization’s YouTube, X and Rumble channels, and it will also air on Sinclair Broadcast Group’s OTT network, CHARGE!, which is available through services such as Samsung Plus, YouTube TV, Hulu and Sling.

Additional partners include Daily Wire+, Real America’s Voice and One America News Network, giving the show a sizable digital and cable footprint that could reach millions of viewers during the NFL’s most-watched broadcast window of the year.

While counterprogramming during major televised events is not new, the scale and messaging behind Turning Point USA’s effort highlight how deeply entertainment, politics and culture have become intertwined.
